How Long Does a Brazilian Wax Last?

A Brazilian wax lasts three to four weeks, depending on the person and the area, because the wax takes each hair out at the root. Booking on that rhythm is what keeps you on one hair growth cycle, so each session runs shorter and more comfortable, and the hair tends to grow back finer.

The short answer

Why a Brazilian Wax Lasts Three to Four Weeks

A Brazilian wax keeps the skin smooth for three to four weeks because the wax pulls each hair from the root, so there's no stubble sitting at the surface waiting to show. How long the results last for you depends on the person and the area.

Hair grows in cycles, and on the day you wax, not every hair is at the same stage. Some are still under the skin where the wax can't reach, and over the following weeks the hair growth cycle brings them up as the first regrowth you notice.

Does Waxing Last Longer Than Shaving?

Waxing lasts longer than shaving, and the reason is how much of each hair gets left behind.

Shaving

A razor cuts each hair level with the skin and leaves the rest of it in place. That hair keeps growing from where it was cut, so stubble comes back quickly.

Waxing

Waxing removes hair from the root, so every hair it takes has to grow back from scratch. Of the two kinds of hair removal, it's the one that holds for weeks.

On a schedule

Does a Brazilian Wax Last Longer Over Time?

Each Brazilian wax lasts three to four weeks whether it's your first or your tenth. Regular waxing changes the visit itself and the hair that comes back.

On a waxing schedule of every three to four weeks, your hair stays on one growth cycle. Each session runs shorter and more comfortable, and over the long term the hair tends to grow back finer.

The schedule only holds if the hair is long enough each time. Shave in between and the next wax has to wait until the hair grows back to about a quarter inch, which takes roughly two weeks without a razor.

Starting a schedule? Book your Brazilian, then book the next one three to four weeks later.

If it's your first

What Your First Brazilian Wax Is Like

The first wax tends to be the most sensitive, because skin meeting wax for the first time reacts more, and any redness usually settles inside a day.

Tell Thiara it's your first when you book, and she'll adjust the pace to suit your skin. You're the only client in the suite for the whole appointment, with the door closed.

A first wax only reaches the hair that's above the surface that day, so a few hairs may show up before three weeks are out. Coming back on schedule catches those later hairs at the next visit.

Before and after

Prep and Aftercare for a Brazilian Wax

Prep gives the wax enough hair to grip, and aftercare keeps the skin calm and clear while the regrowth comes in.

Before the wax

  • Let the hair grow to at least a quarter inch, about the size of a grain of rice. From a shave, that's roughly two weeks.
  • Skip lotions and oils on the day of your appointment.
  • Exfoliate gently 24 hours before, to lift dead skin.

After the wax

  • Skip heat, sweat and tight clothing for the first 24 hours, and wear something loose.
  • Start exfoliating lightly after two or three days, a couple of times a week. That prevents most ingrown hairs.
  • Use a fragrance-free moisturizer between visits.

A Brazilian Wax at TLC Nails and Esthetics

TLC Nails and Esthetics is one private suite at 9706 Belair Rd in Nottingham, booked by appointment, one client at a time. Thiara holds a Maryland esthetician license and a Maryland nail technician license, and she does every wax herself, in English or Spanish.

A Brazilian wax in Nottingham, MD with Thiara takes everything front to back in a 40 minute appointment, at $65. Some clients keep a small strip at the front and say so at the start.

If you'd rather start smaller, a bikini wax tidies the sides and the top along the bikini line, and the Brazilian wax and bikini wax comparison sets all four tiers side by side. Underarms, legs, lip and chin sit with the rest of the body and face waxing.

Questions

Brazilian Wax Regrowth and Rebooking FAQs

A first Brazilian wax lasts three to four weeks, the same as any Brazilian, depending on the person and the area. Because hair grows in cycles, some of it is still under the skin on the day of a first wax, and those hairs may come through sooner. Booking the next one three to four weeks later starts putting your hair on one cycle.

Booking a Brazilian wax every three to four weeks matches how long each one lasts and keeps you on one hair growth cycle. On that rhythm the appointments get quicker and more comfortable. Leaving longer between visits is fine too, as long as the hair is at least a quarter inch when you come in.

A Brazilian wax at TLC Nails and Esthetics takes 40 minutes from start to finish, including a quick chat about what you want before the wax begins. Thiara works in small sections, front to back, until the last of the hair is removed. On a three to four week schedule, Brazilian waxing gets quicker from one visit to the next.

Shaving between Brazilian waxes cuts the regrowth back to the surface, and the next wax needs at least a quarter inch of hair to grip. After a shave, the hair takes roughly two weeks to reach that length again, so the razor tends to push your next appointment later. Leaving it alone between visits keeps a three to four week schedule on track.

Hair needs to be at least a quarter inch long for a Brazilian wax, about the size of a grain of rice, so the wax has enough to grip. Coming from a shave, that's roughly two weeks without a razor. On the day itself, leave off lotions and oils, and exfoliate gently the day before.

Light exfoliation prevents most ingrown hairs after a Brazilian wax, starting two or three days after the appointment and kept to a couple of times a week. It clears away the dead skin a new hair has to push through. Loose clothing for the first day and a fragrance-free moisturizer between visits help the skin stay comfortable.

The cons of getting a Brazilian wax are some sensitivity during the appointment, a little redness that usually settles inside a day, and waiting for the hair to reach a quarter inch before each visit. The first wax is the most sensitive, and on a three to four week schedule the sessions after it get shorter and easier. Ingrown hairs can happen too, and light exfoliation after the first two or three days prevents most of them.

A Brazilian wax at TLC includes the inner labia and the areas around them, front to back. If you want anything kept, like a small strip at the front, tell Thiara at the start of the appointment.

A Brazilian wax during pregnancy is fine at TLC Nails and Esthetics, all the way through the ninth month. Skin tends to be more sensitive than usual while pregnant, so mention the pregnancy when you book and Thiara knows before the appointment starts.

Say goodbye to your mediocre nail salon. Thiara is the best nail tech I've had since living in Europe and New York. She has built a gorgeous salon in her beautiful home that is clean and serene. She is knowledgeable, talented, and lovely. After having terrible experiences at literally 5 different nail salons in Bel Air and Forest Hill, I decided to try a private nail tech and I am here to stay. For the acrylic girlies, this is your sign to give Gel X a try. Thiara's system is well worth converting to. Plus, her prices are great.

I absolutely love my nails every time I come here! My sets consistently last 3-4weeks, which says a lot about the quality and care put into the work. The space is always clean, peaceful, and relaxing, it never feels rushed or overwhelming like typical salons. What really stands out is how approachable and welcoming the experience is. You can tell there's real attention to detail and pride in the work. If you're looking for long-lasting nails and a calm, professional environment, I highly recommend TLC Nails & Esthetics!

TLC was exactly what I've been longing for over several years: a professional nail manicurist that is knowledgeable, skillful, and really cares about the health of my nails. Thiara was very patient, answered all of my concerns, and educated me on the particulars of BIAB. I love how my nails turned out and I finally can rest from shopping all around for a professional manicurist.
